Product Description and Principal Function(s)
SWAP’n’GO GREEN is a lightweight LPG cylinder for all leisure uses. SnGG has a steel inner liner, wrapped in a thermoplastic composite layer inside a plastic outer jacket, achieving a total weight of 6.5Kg, for an 8.0kg LPG Capacity. SnGG also offers improved safety with a valve that will not allow the release of gas unless a regulator is attached.
SnGG is intended for use in the SWAP’n’GO swap network. Along with the revolutionary cylinder design, SnGG also has 100% carbon offset LPG and a 100% recyclable cylinder, giving consumers a truly ‘Green’ choice in BBQ/Patio Heater LPG swap cylinders.
Why does the product represent design excellence and why do you believe it deserves an Australian International Design Award?
SWAP’n’GO GREEN offers consumers real benefits versus the existing alternatives:
1. 100% CARBON NEUTRAL LPG with certified carbon offsets
2. 100% RECYCLABLE MATERIALS used in bottle construction
3. LIGHTER WEIGHT than a typical steel cylinder
4. EASY TO CARRY with comfortable twin handles
5. RUST FREE coastal friendly exterior
6. STRONG composite reinforced construction with steel inner liner
7. DURABLE impact resistant outer shell
8. IMPROVED SAFETY with a valve that will not allow the release of gas unless a regulator is attached
Steel LPG cylinders are a common daily use product that have been accepted, essentially as is, for over 50 years. Presently there are an estimated 1.8 billion steel cylinders in use worldwide. However, this very old design contains many less than optimal features including unacceptable consumer ergonomic protection.
The SnGG lightweight cylinder is the first and only thermoplastic composite cylinder ever produced. It is a fully recyclable cylinder, with a steel inner liner, a thermoplastic composite over-wrap and an exterior protective plastic jacket. The SnGG lightweight cylinder was designed to overcome most of the disadvantages present in old designs.
SnGG offers superior ergonomics. A standard steel cylinder has a folded metal handle that digs into the user’s hand. The SnGG handles are shaped with a naturally fitting form and a large surface area to provide greater comfort in handling. SnGG also has two opposing handles, instead of one, that allowing for a two-handed carry in front of the user, as opposed to an ergonomically challenged one armed lopsided carry.
SnGG is a rust free product that is suitable for all types of normally occurring weather and environments, including coastal areas. However, the steel liner provides good heat transfer necessary for good vaporisation, as well as an impermeable layer, eliminating the possibility of gas permeation through the cylinder wall.
The use of thermoplastic material as an inner wrap, along with the thin steel liner, provides lightness to the cylinder in addition to increased shock resistance and full recyclability. Selection of thermoplastic composite material provides a clean manufacturing process, with no dangerous emissions, becoming friendly not only to the environment but also to workers and end consumers.
The plastic outer jacket provides protection against shock, UV radiation and corrosion, as well as providing superior aesthetics. The outer configuration is also designed stackable for transport. Its appealing design revolutionises a common product into a differentiated product with its unlimited colour options and integrated graphics.
The design eliminates significant swap system refurbishment processes, costs and emissions. The integral colour eliminates the need for re-painting while the integral graphics eliminate the need to remove and replace labels. The scratch resistant exterior also eliminates the need for protective netting.
The SnGG cylinder is designed under the unlimited life criteria. Several variations of the cylinder have been approved by TÜV Rheinland, according to the European directive 99/36/EC (Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive). The cylinder can be manufactured according to several International Standards including EN12245; EN14427; DOT SP 14457; AS2030; and ABNT NBR 15574. . The cylinder is marketed as CoMet outside of Australia.
